How it Works
See our system in action and a patient’s journey from our most recent clinical trial with UCLA collaborators.
Backed by Science
- Our technology is based on nearly a decade of research funded by the National Cancer Institute.
- Imaging and biopsy information from thousands of patients are leveraged to identify an individual’s unique cancer margin.
- We reimagined laser ablation — used in many types of cancer therapy — to create a simple office-based tissue ablation procedure for prostate cancer.

The Orion System

The Orion system* uses machine learning to create patient specific treatment plans. It delivers targeted treatment through focal laser ablation, minimizing the impact to healthy tissue and preserving urinary and sexual function.

Treatment plans are synced with a workstation with minimal footprint. Laser energy is provided by the workstation, which displays tissue temperatures and treatment progress in real-time.

A laser needle and sensor are inserted into the target tissue under ultrasound guidance. The laser needle gently heats tissue causing coagulation necrosis. Requiring only local anesthesia, patients experience minimal to no downtime.

Workflow
Pre-treatment Planning
- Using a patient’s MRI and biopsy information, Avenda Health algorithms predict cancer margins.
- A treatment plan is created to inform a urologist where to insert laser fibers to ablate the cancer.
- Treatment plan downloaded into workstation
Treatment
- Urologist navigates to each ablation site and inserts laser fiber and sensor
- Laser energy warms tissue (~60°C)
- Treatment progress is visualized on workstation
- Patient walks out of office and resumes normal activity
